High Court Overturns Firearm License Revocation for Jimmy Wanjigi

By Shadrack Nyakoe

The High Court has today overturned the government’s decision to revoke businessman and politician Jimmy Wanjigi’s firearm license.

Justice Bahati Mwamuye’s ruling also prohibits the police and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) from arresting or prosecuting Jimmy Wanjigi on charges related to his firearms certificate.

This decision follows Wanjigi’s arrest in August 2024 over alleged illegal possession of assorted firearms.

The Firearms Licensing Board had revoked his license during the same period. Justice Mwamuye’s ruling effectively nullifies the revocation and halts any related criminal proceedings.

Additionally, the court terminated the criminal trial of two individuals arrested with explosives outside Wanjigi’s Muthaiga residence, citing procedural irregularities.

This ruling underscores the judiciary’s role in safeguarding individual rights and ensuring due process in legal proceedings.

Wanjigi’s legal team has expressed relief over the court’s decision, emphasizing the importance of upholding constitutional rights and the rule of law.

The case has attracted significant public attention, highlighting ongoing debates over firearm licensing and the treatment of political figures within the legal system.
