The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) has announced the revision of DNA testing fees from Sh20, 000 to Sh27, 000.

KEMRI announced that the new prices have been effective since the start of the month this year.

“We wish to inform our valued customers of a marginal 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐝𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 for the DNA Testing Service from Ksh 20, 000 to Ksh 27, 000 starting this January 2025.” KEMRI announced on their official social media handles.

DNA tests are conducted at the KEMRI Human DNA Identification Laboratory (Also known as the HID Laboratory)

It is usually done due to a legal case or personal knowledge and the type of test chosen depends on the intended use of the DNA test.

It is always done using a variety of body tissues including hair, nails, bones teeth, Saliva, and blood among others.

Separately, a court in Eldoret has ordered a DNA test to be conducted for a thirty-year-old man accused of defiling and impregnating a minor to determine if he is the newborn’s father.

Senior resident magistrate Daniel Sitati directed the police to escort the suspect George Ouro and the 16-year-old to a government chemist in Kisumu where the DNA test will be conducted.

The police were directed to hold the suspect for three days until the test was done and charges against him filed in court to prove the allegations.

Earlier on, the magistrate dismissed a request by the police to detain Ouro for five days citing that three days were enough.

He said the suspect will cooperate since he has been reporting to the police station monthly since his release on bond early last year when the case was filed.
