Kenya and Azerbaijan have taken a significant step toward enhancing diplomatic relations by signing a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on bilateral political consultations.
The agreement was finalized during a meeting between Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs CS Musalia Mudavadi and Azerbaijani Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov on the sidelines of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on September 24, 2024.
Mudavadi described the MoU as a pivotal move to foster future engagements and partnerships between the two nations.
In a statement shared via his official social media accounts, he noted that their discussions centered on enhancing bilateral cooperation and exploring mutual opportunities, particularly in light of the upcoming 2024 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP29.
The Prime Cabinet Secretary commended Azerbaijan for its commitment to environmental sustainability and expressed Kenya’s eagerness to collaborate more closely on climate action as Azerbaijan prepares to host COP29 from November 11 to November 22, 2024.
Mudavadi highlighted Kenya’s dedication to addressing global climate challenges, emphasizing the importance of achieving meaningful progress on key issues such as climate financing, loss and damage, and energy transition at the upcoming conference.
This partnership aims to strengthen efforts in promoting sustainable development, enhancing diplomatic relations and tackling climate issues on a global scale.
