The Kenya Education Fund (KEF), a non-profit organization dedicated to providing scholarships and life-skills development programs to bright and underprivileged students in Kenya has started a week-long Career Readiness, Reproductive Health and Entrepreneurship Workshop (CREW) for the graduating class of 2023.

Held in Karen from July 16th to July 22nd, the workshop is designed to equip young KEF graduates with valuable tools to navigate the transition into adulthood and college.

Since its inception, Kenya Education Fund has empowered over 4,500 young minds to break the cycle of poverty and achieve their full potential.

The organization boasts a 99% transition rate for its scholars into university, with each student receiving an extra year of scholarship to facilitate their college journey.

“At KEF, we believe in investing in the holistic development of our scholars,” said KEF country director Francis Ng’ang’a. “The CREW workshop goes beyond academics, providing graduates with the essential life skills they need to thrive in university, the workplace, and their communities.”

The intensive program covers a diverse range of topics, including design thinking, communication skills, stress management, ethics, reproductive health and self-awareness, financial literacy, CV writing and interviewing skills, civics/governance and leadership and negotiation skills.

Elisha Odhiambo, a beneficiary of the Kenya Education Fund, says that KEF has been of great importance to him since it supported his secondary education. He is eagerly looking forward to joining university to study computer science under the sponsorship of KEF.

This curriculum, which has been effective for the last 11 years since KEF started implementing it, combined with mentorship opportunities by older KEF alumni, empowers graduates to make informed decisions about their futures and career choices. The workshop equips them to excel in their chosen fields, become responsible individuals, and contribute meaningfully to the global community.

Kenya Education Fund places a strong emphasis on the mental wellbeing of the students, ensuring it is cared for and cultivated throughout the program.

KEF encourages youth who have completed their secondary education to take advantage of the many opportunities available, such as Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVETs), scholarships, and other global opportunities.
