KEWOPA Hosts Community Engagement Forum in Tharaka Nithi County

The Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) recently conducted a comprehensive community engagement forum in Tharaka Nithi County, focusing on enhancing governance through education on accountability, transparency, and public participation.

The forum aimed to educate participants on the importance of these principles in governance, highlighting how they contribute to building trust and integrity within the community.

The sessions emphasized that accountability and transparency are essential for ensuring that leaders are answerable to the people and that resources are managed efficiently and fairly.

A significant part of the discussions revolved around the critical role of public participation in decision-making processes. The forum stressed that involving citizens in governance ensures that their voices are heard and considered, which is fundamental to democratic practice.

This engagement helps in aligning government actions with the needs and aspirations of the community, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility among the citizens.

The principle that sovereign power belongs to the citizens was also a key topic. Participants were reminded that in a democratic society, the ultimate authority rests with the people. This principle underpins the democratic ethos that government should serve the interests of its citizens and be responsive to their needs.

Tharaka Nithi Women Representative, Hon. Susan Nduyo, graced the event, providing valuable insights and support. Her presence and contributions further enriched the discussions, reinforcing the community’s understanding of these crucial governance concepts.

“We are fostering a more informed and empowered community,” said Hon. Nduyo. “Such forums are vital in ensuring that our citizens are aware of their rights and responsibilities in governance.”

Nationally, KEWOPA operates under the wise, meticulous, and skillful leadership of the National Chairperson, Hon. Leah Sankaire. Her leadership has been instrumental in steering the association towards achieving its goals of promoting good governance and empowering communities across Kenya.

The Tharaka Nithi forum is part of KEWOPA’s broader initiative to enhance civic education and promote active citizen engagement in governance. By empowering citizens with knowledge and encouraging their participation, KEWOPA continues to play a crucial role in strengthening democracy and governance in Kenya.
