The County Government of Kitui will in a fortnight embark on an intensive capacity building training and issuance of smart driving licenses to 720 Boda Boda operators from across the county.
The Chief Officer for Transport and Boda Boda Peter Ketonya Musya has indicated that the comprehensive training program will cover crucial aspects such as road usage and safety, customer service excellence and financial saving skills. This initiative is poised to elevate the professionalism and efficiency of Boda Boda operations, setting a new standard for the industry in Kitui.
“Training of the selected riders will be carried out at the Sub-County level in conjunction with expert instructors from NTSA-accredited driving schools,” said Musya.
He emphasized that the planned exercise is part of the County Government’s initiatives aimed at fostering growth, professionalism and sustainability within the Boda Boda sector which he termed as a key player in the growth of Kitui’s local economy.
“The sector has employed thousands of Kitui residents particularly the youth and has been a lifeline for numerous households across the county. That’s why we are keen to support the realization of the sector’s full socio-economic potential,” said the Chief Officer.
He was speaking in Kitui Township when he interacted with Boda Boda operators at Kiembeni stage.
He further noted that his Department has developed standard application forms to be availed at all Village Administrators’ offices across Kitui for a seamless and inclusive approach to the program.
The application period is slated for Monday 15th to Wednesday 17th April, 2024.
The exercise will culminate in an auspicious graduation ceremony of the empowered operators (trainees) at Kitui County Headquarters.
