The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has announced the participation of its members, with a plan to offer medical services to protesters as the Occupy Parliament protests enter day two.
KMPDU Secretary General Davji Atellah has said the medics will handle injuries and emergencies that may arise from the planned demonstrations across Kenyan towns.
The doctors intend to converge in Nairobi and other towns at midday to join other protesters.
“As KMPDU, we stand in full support of #MedicsForKenya and join the nationwide call to #RejectFinanceBill2024. Our commitment extends to offering medical care to all peaceful demonstrators participating in this crucial movement.” The SG said.
“We will convene in Nairobi CBD and other involved towns at noon to ensure that our voices are heard and that our fellow citizens receive the care they need during these demonstrations.” He added.
Davji said that doctors are firmly behind the move to instigate ‘meaningful change’ while also safeguarding the health of Kenyans.
“We believe in the power of peaceful protest to bring about meaningful change and are dedicated to supporting those who exercise their democratic rights. Let us stand together in solidarity, advocating for a fair and just future for our nation. VIVA!.” He said.
Doctors on the X platform have backed the message, with many repeatedly sharing tweets of the day’s activities, where the medics shall be positioned, and who to even call/text in case of an emergency.
Members of Parliament will today resume debating the 2024 Finance Bill as thousands of irate Kenyans from across the country converge in their respective towns to pile pressure on the hugely popular Occupy Parliament protests.
The voting on the bill will be next week on Thursday.
