Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Managing Director, Captain William Ruto has urged farmers to adopt climate-smart agriculture to promote sustainable economic growth.

While addressing attendees at the Mombasa International Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) Show, where he served as the Chief Guest, Ruto emphasized the importance of the event’s theme: “Promoting climate-smart agriculture and trade incentives for sustainable economic growth.”

Ruto noted that climate change presents serious challenges to farmers and the broader economy, making it imperative to implement sustainable agricultural practices.

These practices, he said, not only boost productivity but also conserve natural resources, ensuring long-term resilience.

As part of his address, Captain Ruto highlighted the key role the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) plays in facilitating trade, serving as a critical link to both local and international markets. He reaffirmed KPA’s commitment to supporting agricultural exports while maintaining environmental stewardship.

He further called for stronger partnerships among key stakeholders to strengthen the agricultural sector in Kenya.

Additionally, Ruto encouraged SACCOs to invest in educating and training farmers on climate-smart methods, stressing that such investments are essential for the adoption of innovative practices.

“Together, we can support initiatives that provide access to sustainable technologies and create markets for climate-resilient products,” he said.

Ruto toured various stands, including Mombasa Cultural Centre, Bandari Sacco, Port Sacco, Mombasa Maize Millers, Uganda Consulate, Women Enterprise Fund, and the National Irrigation Authority, among others, underscoring his commitment to fostering cooperation and innovation in agriculture.
