Makueni Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili has called on the the Kenyan government to intervene for the safe return of Florence Wanza Munyao, a Kenyan truck driver reportedly abducted amidst military conflicts in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Speaking at the inauguration of a modern truck stop in Sultan Hamud, Mulili underscored the importance of women in long-distance driving, stating that success in the profession is determined by skill, not gender.
She emphasized that women excelling in this field exemplify equity, inclusion, and participation.
The new truck stop, developed by real estate firm Superior Homes, provides essential amenities for long-distance drivers, including accommodation, restaurants, a fuel station, washrooms, and secure parking. Mulili praised the facility as more than a business venture, calling it a milestone in the county’s economic growth.
Shiv Arora, CEO of Superior Homes, highlighted the infrastructure and logistics improvements represented by the facility, while emphasizing Sultan Hamud’s role as a key hub for truck drivers, with an estimated 300 trucks parking along the road nightly.
The event was attended by Sonia Nzilani, County Executive Member for Trade, and Ian Henderson, Managing Director of Superior Homes, among other dignitaries.
