Acting Inspector General (IG) and Deputy IG Administration Police (APS) Gilbert Masengeli has promised to ensure collaboration among the various security agencies in a move to improve the security of the country.

Speaking today at the AP headquarters as he officially took over as the DIG, Masengeli stated that security for all will be his top priority.

“Our strength is teamwork and a multi-agency approach. We will work with other security agencies to ensure we excel and provide the peace that is supposed to be as per the Constitution.” Masengeli stated.

The new DIG promised to uphold professionalism and respect the rule of law as per the Constitution.

“I am ready to guide the officers to ensure the public gets the desired services since security is our priority and the safety of each and everyone is our responsibility.” He stated.

Masengeli takes over from acting DIG James Kamau who has been acting in the same capacity after appointment by the president after the resignation of former Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome.

This is the first time in the history National Police Service for the DIG-APS to have a person grow from the Constable rank to the topmost and serve as the DIG.

“People are referring to the new (DIG) as homegrown because he has risen from being a constable to the level of a DIG. I wish him all the best as he takes over.” Kamau said as he handed it over.

The new police boss who will now lead the Administration Police Service is taking over from outgoing acting DIG James Kamau who was serving the same position in an acting capacity.

Masengeli will be acting as the Inspector General of Police after the immediate acting IG Douglas Kanja was appointed by President William Ruto and is awaiting for the vetting before confirmation.
