Meru County Deputy Speaker hospitalized, daughter dies in tragic accident

Meru County Deputy Speaker Mwenda Ali has been airlifted to Nairobi after sustaining injuries in a grisly road accident at Gatunduri in Embu County along the Embu-Meru highway.

According to a report from a close friend, the Njia ward MCA had left Meru for Nairobi to see off his wife, who was being flown to India for treatment.

The fatal accident claimed his daughter on the spot. While confirming the incident, both Embu County Commander Nicholas Maina and Embu West Traffic Base Commander Solomon Wamae said the 6-year-old girl died on the spot after sustaining serious injuries.

The other child was airlifted together with his dad and the driver to Karen Hospital, Nairobi, all with serious injuries, the child succumbed to injuries on arrival.

According to the police report, Mwenda’s Subaru was involved in a head-on collision with a Toyota Hilux in the Gatunduri area along the Embu-Meru highway. The Subaru had four people on board: two children, Mwenda, and his driver, while the Toyota Hilux had one person who suffered minor injuries.

The deputy speaker’s Subaru car was left in wreckage after bursting into flames, which consumed it to ashes. On the other side, the double cabin pick-up veered off to the roadside thicket, with its front partially destroyed.
