MP Babu Owino hints formation of a steering committee to run Nairobi County

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has claimed that there will soon be a National Steering Committee formed by the president to help in the running of Nairobi City County.

Taking to his social media, Babu Owino claimed that governor Sakaja has requested president William Ruto to allow him to chair the committee and then appoint the vice chairperson and other members himself(The president)

The MP who has been a big critic of the Sakaja-led administration claimed that the governor is incompetent.

“Sakaja is so incompetent that the president is going to form a National Steering Committee to help run the County. He requested to chair the committee to avoid embarrassment while the vice chairperson and other committee members will be appointed by president Ruto.” Owino stated.

Wangui Maina, governor Sakaja’s communication director would neither deny nor confirm the rumors.

She instead directed us to seek comment from the head of state regarding the issue. “I think the President is the best person to comment he is the one appointing.” Wangui said.

This comes a few weeks after a section of the Nairobi City County legislators called on President Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to intervene and save the situation in Nairobi.

The legislators claimed that governor Sakaja and his team are not working to deliver the promises they made to Nairobians.

They stated that if things go wrong in the city, it is the president that will be blamed.

“The Kenya Kwanza administration made promises to Nairobians two years ago. As of now, the city is out of order with hawkers everywhere and uncollected garbage. We call upon President William Ruto to come and save the situation in our city.” Deputy minority leader and Nairobi South MCA Waithera Chege previously stated.

The lawmakers have said they are ready to receive directions from above (President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga) and ensure that order is restored in the city and everything running well.
