Amani National Congress (ANC) has officially accepted a merger with the United Democratic Party (UDA).
This was announced today by the Lamu governor and ANC party leader Issa Timamy.
Timamy revealed that the resolution was arrived at after a meeting held by elected leaders of the party over the weekend who agreed to it.
“The Amani National Congress Party (ANC) has formally approved a merger with the United Democratic Alliance Party (UDA), following a meeting of the Amani Council and elected leaders of ANC Party.” Timamy said in a statement.
The crucial meeting was hosted in Lamu County on Saturday with over 140 Members of the Amani Council, elected MPs and MCAs of the Party attending.
Lamu governor was appointed in charge of overseeing the whole process where time was marked an important essence.
“Governor Timamy, the Party Leader, has been authorized and granted the mandate to lead, coordinate and oversee the full implementation and completion of the merger between ANC and UDA, time being of the essence.” The statement by ANC added.
The ANC leadership stressed the importance of shunning tribal politics and advocated for a united Kenya.
The leadership emphasized that overcoming ethnic divisions remains a national priority to enable a conducive environment for social, political and economic stability and progress for our nation.
Further, Timamy expressed confidence and enthusiasm for the merger, assuring the members of both political parties that the merger was a good outcome and that it will help drive the country towards stability and progress which we all need as a people of this nation.
ANC nominated Timamy as the party leader following the exit of Musalia Mudavadi in 2022, after he was appointed prime cabinet.
They have been in talks with UDA over a merger since last year.
