The leadership of the Nairobi business community has strongly condemned the recent killings of youths who were demonstrating against the 2024 finance bill, which was subsequently rejected by the president.
Addressing journalists at a hotel in Nairobi, the leadership of Nairobi Business Community led by their chairman Wilfred Kamau, vowed to protect their businesses amidst reports that certain sponsored groups are taking advantage of the demonstrations to loot and destroy property.
“This demonstration began well; it was well organized. Unfortunately, along the way, some well-sponsored and organized groups took over. They have vandalized our businesses and stolen our properties. As the leadership, this has to stop because we have what it takes to protect our businesses,” said Kamau.
Kamau added that going forward, they will not allow any more demonstrations in the city, as it appears that some people are sponsoring these groups, causing the business community to lose millions of shillings.
“We can’t allow this to continue. How can criminals loot for an hour in the presence of police officers? This is why we are asking regional commander Mr. Adamson Bungei to explain what was happening,” said the chairman of Nairobi Business Community.
The businessmen also took time to pray and express their condolences to the families of youths who lost their lives, as well as those admitted to various hospitals across the country.
