Nairobi County to establish virtual platform for linking artisans, Nairobians to opportunities and workforce

By Antynet Ford

Nairobi City County will soon have a virtual platform ‘Nairobi City County Artisan Bureau’ where artisans will be vetted, licensed, and linked to people in need of their services.

Through the system that will be established, Nairobians will be able to access remotely and inquire about artisan services such as plumbing, electrical services, and painting among others.

The county assembly passed the motion by Clay City MCA Samora Mwaura which seeks the aforesaid establishment.

According to Samora, before accepting someone from the Juakali sector to even offer plumbing services, a citizen in Nairobi will be able to vet and verify them first.

“Economies are moving towards digitization and 60 per cent of the workforce is supported by Juakali. By the implementation of this particular motion, the sector will be formalized in a way that Nairobians will be able to vet and verify them before accepting their services.” Samora said.

He added that it will cut the hustle of knowing someone in a particular area of the city for them to connect you to a service provider that you need.

The MCA added that just like the other digital platforms like Digital Taxi, Nairobians will be able to track anyone who underperforms or does something illegal as the system will have the contact of the people offering the services.

Further, Mwaura added that it will be a source of revenue to the county and all the students from TVET institutions will be directly connected to opportunities after school.

“People around the city trust digital Taxis because they are safe and the various companies have the details of the drivers which will be applied in our soon-to-come system. We will introduce a small fee that will be affordable to every artisan and this will be a revenue stream for the county. TVETS will also be promoted by this as they will get the automatic verification.” Samora stated.
