NMB Bank Plc, in partnership with Mastercard, has unveiled Tanzania’s first QR Pay by Link (QR PBL) payment solution, marking a significant step forward in the country’s digital transformation.
This innovative service allows small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to accept card payments via QR code or a secure link, eliminating the need for physical point of sale (POS) devices.
As Africa’s first in-store QR PBL utilizing Mastercard’s Click 2 Pay feature, the solution offers fast, secure, and password-free transactions for consumers. Designed to meet the increasing demand for convenient digital payments, QR PBL provides a cost-effective way for businesses to integrate card payments, empowering SMEs with a streamlined and accessible payment system.
Ruth Zaipuna, CEO of NMB Bank, emphasized the impact of this innovation, stating, “This new solution removes the need for complex setups, allowing businesses to focus on what they do best while offering their customers the convenience of seamless payments.”
Shehryar Ali, Senior Vice President and Country Manager for East Africa at Mastercard, highlighted the collaboration’s role in fostering digital inclusion, adding, “By fostering the adoption of innovative technologies, we aim to support the growth of businesses and economies across the region.”
With over 3 million small businesses in Tanzania, the QR PBL solution is set to enhance payment accessibility across sectors such as retail, hospitality, and transportation, promoting inclusive growth and supporting Mastercard’s global goal of connecting 1 billion people to the digital economy by 2025.
