Nursing Ranked Among Top 4 Most Preferred Courses by Students – KUCCPS CEO

On Wednesday, February 26, 2025, during the 2nd Biennial Kenya Universities Funding Conference, KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer Agnes Wahome highlighted four courses that are most popular among students qualifying for university placement.

According to Wahome, nursing remains one of the top choices for students. She also noted that clinical medicine, teaching, and law are among the most preferred courses for those who attain a mean grade of C+ and above.

“For those who qualify for university placement, we have seen students who have attained a C+ and above opting for nursing, clinical medicine, and teaching,” the KUCCPS CEO commented.

She went on to add, “Last week, we put up an advertisement for a diploma in law, and we saw most students who had attained a C+ and above opting for the course.”

However, despite the high demand for the four courses, Wahome reiterated that over the last two years, there has been a general trend of students preferring to pursue diploma programmes.

According to the KUCCPS boss, while more male applicants preferred science courses, more female students opted to pursue law and most arts programmes.

“There is a general trend of students preferring to take diploma or TVET programmes over the last two years. We still have more male students taking up science programmes and more females opting for law and most arts programmes,” Wahome stated.

Less than a month after KUCCPS officially opened its portal for Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) students to apply for diploma and certificate courses, the agency has made another update.

Although the initial application deadline was February 14, KUCCPS reopened the portal on Wednesday, February 26, to give those who missed out another chance to apply.

The placement service announced that the online application process aims to fill 21 remaining KMTC slots for the March intake, with applicants given a week to submit their applications for the available courses.

“KUCCPS has re-opened the online application portal seeking to fill 21 KMTC courses that still have slots for the March 2025 Intake. The portal will remain open until March 4, 2025,” KUCCPS announced.

“All applicants who were not successful in the last application and others who would like to join KMTC in March 2025 are invited to apply. The application portal is accessible via this link: students.kuccps.net.”
