Ombeta, Omari Pulls out of Rashid Echesa Extortion Case

Lawyers Danstan Omari and Cliff Ombeta have announced the stopping of representing former sports CS Rashid Echesa in the case in which he is accused of extortion.

Echesa is accused of extorting Kakamega Governor Fernandes Baraza of Ksh.39 billion in a fake firearms case.

Omari in a letter to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday said he had withdrawn his legal services to the former minister in the case, without divulging further details.

“Kindly note that we are no longer acting for the above-named person. Any communication with regards to him should be directed to him or his representatives.” Omari told the investigative agency.

On April 3, 2024, the court granted Echesa a personal bond of Ksh.2 million and directed him to appear before the police once he is discharged from the hospital before April 23.

“Echesa is still in hospital and he will continue to be in hospital until when the doctors are convinced that he has recovered, so let it not be expected that he has been released on bond he’s going to be out of Karen hospital.” lawyers Omari and Cliff Ombeta had previously told the court.

Police officers were however barred from arresting the former CS
