Omnicare aesthetic clinic to remain closed as MOH puts clinics on notice

Aesthetic clinics across the country have been put on notice by the Ministry of Health for operating without proper licences as three of them have been shut down following three months of Investigations.

Speaking while releasing the three months report, public health and professional standards PS Mary Muthoni said out of the 26 aesthetic clinics assessed, 20 were found to have proper documentation, while 3 are still in the process of getting proper certification, as 3 others were found to be operating illegally.

She stated that despite the demand for beauty in the country, there must be checks and balances.

“Three anathestetic clinics have been closed because they were operating illegally. Out of the 102 beauty SPAs that were inspected several were found operating without legal documentation. Some of these procedures require registered medical personnel to undertake them. We are sending a warning to all SPAs doing the same that we shall take necessary action against them,” she stated.

The PS said that Omnicare, which runs the body by design clinic where a lady died after complications from an operation she underwent, will remain closed as there is an ongoing case at the courts.

Muthoni stated that the, body by design was not assessed in the just concluded investigations and thus, it will remain under lock and key.

PS Muthoni has warned any clinic offering invasive procedures without KMPDC approval will be shut down and owners prosecuted.
