Police dead another injured after a shootout incident at the Gigiri police canteen

Police have launched an investigation into an incident where a parliament protection officer fatally shot a colleague attached to Runda Police station while he injured another attached to the judiciary after an altercation at the Gigiri Police Canteen.

Limo Kipkosgey, an officer believed to be attached to the National Parliament as a protection officer, reportedly shot the two officers in the left chest and lower abdomen, respectively.

It was reported by the Gigiri police canteen attendant that the intoxicated officer shot the two after they disagreed.

The assailant officer, who was armed with his Jericho pistol, reached out for it before shooting the two after the disagreement.

The deceased officer attached to Runda Police Station, identified as Eric Munga, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Agha Khan hospital, while his Judiciary Counterpart, Philip Kae, who sustained an injury on the lower abdomen, was admitted at the same hospital.

“The suspect, Limo Kipkosgey Nahashon, a police officer believed to be attached to Parliament as protection officer who was very drunk was arrested by officers from the National Police Service after he shot two officers among a group in a bar at the Gigiri police lines when they disagreed on Sunday.

The two injured police officers were rushed to Aga Khan Hospital, whereby Eric Munga of Runda police station, who was shot on the left chest was pronounced death on arrival while Philip Kae a police officer attached to Judiciary who was shot on the lower abdomen is admitted at the same facility undergoing treatment in stable condition,” A police report stated in part.

According to witnesses, the officers were having food and drinks before the altercation broke out and the shooting happened.

The other officers scamped for safety before their colleagues came to disarm the assailant officer.

The officer is being held in custody pending further actions.

The body of the deceased was moved to the Kenyatta University Funeral Hope, awaiting an autopsy.

The police recovered a spent cartridge, the Jericho pistol loaded with 14 rounds of 9mm ammunition, which are being held as exhibits pending ballistic analysis.

They also recovered the suspect’s parliament access card from his wallet.
