The Principal Secretary for the State Department for Technical, Vocational Education, and Training (TVET), Dr. Esther Muoria, praised the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) for their well-crafted 2023-2027 Strategic Plan during a Council retreat held today at Lake Naivasha Resort.
Dr. Muoria was joined by KNQA Council Chair Stanley Kiptis, KNQA CEO Dr. Alice Kande, and members of the KNQA Council and Senior Management team for a workshop to review and finalize the strategic plan.
Dr. Muoria highlighted the significance of the KNQA’s role in harmonizing the education system and addressing skills development crucial for sustaining the economy.
She emphasized that these efforts contribute to the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, which focuses on investing in the economy. “A harmonized education system will help in maximizing and leveraging existing and emerging skills, thereby boosting the economy in a major way,” she said.
The PS also noted that the strategy aligns with the key pillars of Vision 2030, established in 2008, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to provide quality education, decent work, economic growth, and address climate change.
She assured that the government, through the Ministry of Education, fully supports the strategic plan and will assist through all necessary steps to its implementation and actualization.
She recognized KNQA’s relevance in keeping up with emerging trends and enhancing quality, inclusion, and access to education for all groups.
KNQA Council Chairperson Stanley Kiptis reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to ensuring an unlimited supply of skilled labor force both nationally and globally. He stated, “KNQA is dedicated to providing a skilled workforce that meets the demands of the local and global markets.”
KNQA Director General Dr. Alice Kande noted that the strategic plan is pivotal in delivering quality services with professionalism and integrity.
She emphasized the Authority’s dedication to being responsive and accountable to the public.
The review of the Strategic Plan in Naivasha marks a significant step in enhancing the quality and inclusivity of education in Kenya, ensuring it meets the needs of a dynamic and evolving job market.
