Sakaja Leads Night Cleanup, Vows to Transform Nairobi CBD in 2025

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja demonstrated his commitment to revitalizing the city’s cleanliness by spearheading an overnight cleanup operation that continued into Monday morning.

Joined by over 3,500 members of the Green Army under the Department of Environment, the Governor led the effort to restore Nairobi’s central business district (CBD) to a pristine condition.

During the exercise, Sakaja urged the team to approach their work with dedication and purpose. “Let’s treat this task with the seriousness it deserves. Do it as if it’s for God, not just for a paycheck. Nairobi must be clean this year. Let’s make it happen,” he stated passionately.

The cleanup covered major highways and streets across the city, with the Governor emphasizing that the initiative is part of a long-term campaign. “This is about more than just one day. It’s about creating a culture of cleanliness and pride in our city,” he said.

The effort follows the Governor’s recent flagging off of 24 new refuse compactors to strengthen Nairobi’s waste management system. “These trucks must be put to good use. We have no excuse not to make Nairobi clean,” Sakaja noted.

Sakaja commended the Green Army for their hard work and encouraged them to maintain momentum as Nairobi strives to become a model city of cleanliness and organization by 2025.
