Nairobi City County Governor Sakaja Johnson has achieved a historic milestone by recording the highest revenue of Sh12.1 billion for the county.
As of 12:30 PM on Wednesday, the Nairobi Revenue System documented this impressive figure, with a few days remaining before the end of the Financial Year 2023/2024.
This suggests that the county might reach a total of Sh13 billion by the year’s end, showcasing a remarkable achievement in revenue collection.
This revenue milestone marks the highest since the advent of devolution in Kenya, representing a significant accomplishment for Nairobi City County.
The achievement was realized despite challenges such as the heavy rains and floods, which severely disrupted businesses and normal operations in the county.
Governor Sakaja has surpassed the previous revenue collection record of Sh12.1 billion, set by his predecessor, Dr. Evans Kidero. While the county had set an ambitious target of Sh19.9 billion, the current figures demonstrate a notable improvement in revenue collection, indicating effective fiscal management under Sakaja’s leadership.

The impressive revenue performance can be attributed in part to the introduction of the Unified Business Permit (UBP) by Sakaja. The UBP has streamlined the process for customers to pay for services, enhancing efficiency and ease of transactions.
