Siaya County has taken a major step in improving healthcare services with the launch of the Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) Act.
Governor James Orengo unveiled the legislation, marking a milestone in the county’s commitment to enhancing maternal and child healthcare.
The RMNCAH Act establishes a framework to improve healthcare access, particularly for vulnerable populations.
It prioritizes interventions such as immunization, nutrition programs, and disease prevention while addressing adolescent health concerns, including mental health, sexual and reproductive health, and substance abuse.
Speaking during a stakeholder meeting, Governor Orengo emphasized that the Act is not just a policy document but a commitment to action. He called for increased resource allocation to maternal and child health programs, stressing the importance of accountability in service delivery.
“This document is a commitment to action. We must ensure that maternal and child healthcare services are adequately funded and accessible to all,” said Orengo.
County Executive for Health, Dr. Martin Konyango, urged all stakeholders to actively participate in the Act’s implementation, highlighting its potential to transform healthcare outcomes in Siaya.
The RMNCAH Act also promotes a community-based approach to healthcare, reinforcing the county’s dedication to improving health services and reducing maternal and child mortality rates.
With its enactment, Siaya County aims to set a benchmark for other counties in advancing healthcare access and equity.
