Skyward Express has launched its first international flight, connecting Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi to Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The inaugural flight, held on Friday, marks a major milestone for the Kenyan airline as it ventures into the regional aviation market.
The launch ceremony at JKIA’s Terminal 2 was attended by prominent leaders, including Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport Davis Chirchir, Principal Secretary for Transport Mohamed Dagar, East African Legislative Assembly Member Hassan Omar, Migori County Woman Representative Fatuma Mohamed, Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang, and Acting Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) Managing Director Henry Ogoye.
Skyward Express will operate three weekly flights on the route using a Fokker 100 aircraft, targeting business travelers and tourists alike.
The new service is expected to enhance connectivity between Kenya and Tanzania, tapping into the increasing travel demand between the two nations.
The Kenya Airports Authority lauded the move, emphasizing its commitment to supporting aviation initiatives that boost regional connectivity and economic development.
This expansion not only broadens Skyward Express’ footprint but also strengthens trade and tourism links in East Africa.
