Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja failed to vote this morning in the UDA grassroot elections where he is vying for Nairobi UDA chairmanship after his details were not found in the system.
The governor who had gone to cast his vote at St Georges Primary School experienced technical challenges as the system briefly failed to recognize his registration details.
Addressing the press, UDA party chairman Anthony Mwaura said the city administrator could not vote at the grassroot as he had used his passport to register but the issue was sorted.
“There was a problem with the governor because he had registered using his passport but we have rectified that problem and everything is now flowing in that polling station.” Mwaura told the Press.
He said the voting begun at 9:00am in the various counties holding the election which he said was late and that there will be an extension for the process to end at 5:00pm.
He added that a call centre had been set at the party headquarters to address any challenges arising.
“We are excited by the technology we have adopted… everything is going on as scheduled and we are happy as a party. We have agreed with our party leader and deputy party leader that we must solve all problems and that is what we are doing. We have started a call centre here so that we can attend to all problems.” He said.
Mwaura said the process is smooth except in Mathaare where gadgets had been snatched but were recovered and security beefed up.
The grassroots polls are being held in five counties; Nairobi, Busia, Narok, West Pokot and Homa Bay.
The second phase of the grassroots polls will be on June 22, in 13 counties, the third phase will be held on August 10 across 15 counties and the final phase on August 24, in 12 counties.
A major face-off is expected in Nairobi where Governor Johnson Sakaja will face off with Embakasi North MP James Gakuya.
