Three Charged for Stealing 25 Kgs of Condemned Powdered Milk

Three individuals have been charged in the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court for allegedly stealing 1,511 bags of condemned powdered milk, the property of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

The court heard that on May 3, 2023, at Sambot Ship’s Contractors in Mombasa County, the accused—Florance Wanjiku Muiruri, Moses Boyi Odhiambo, and Daniel Ngugi—allegedly stole 1,511 bags, each containing 25 kg of condemned powdered milk, owned by the KRA.

They were also charged with interfering with goods subjected to customs control, contrary to Section 203(f) of the East African Community Customs Management Act, 2004.

The accused are alleged to have interfered with the condemned milk bags, which were under customs control for destruction, without the authority of the Commissioner of Customs and Border Control.

All three pleaded not guilty to the charges before Chief Magistrate Victor Wakhumile and were released on a bond of Ksh. 200,000 or an alternative cash bail of Ksh. 100,000.

Senior Principal Prosecution Counsel Duncan Ondimu informed the court that the prosecution has already supplied the accused with documentary evidence and witness statements.

Wakhumile directed the matter to be mentioned on July 15, 2024, for further directions.
