Three girls from Narok County are sitting for their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams in hospital shortly after giving birth.

The Narok County Education Director, Apolo Apuko, confirmed that the students are from St. Antony’s Secondary School in Narok East Sub County, Namnyak Girls in Narok West, and Chepkoiyet Secondary in Trans Mara East.

Mr. Apuko assured the public that the girls are in good condition and are taking their exams under strict supervision, just like their peers. He urged the community to support all candidates throughout the examination period, emphasizing the importance of a calm and secure environment.

“Our role as education stakeholders is to ensure the exam is conducted in a conducive environment and that students sit for the correct exam at the designated time. We ask the public to support us by staying away from school premises during this period,” he stated.

Narok County has approximately 17,300 candidates sitting for the KCSE this year, with 16,500 from public schools and 855 from private institutions. More boys than girls are registered for the exams, with 9,500 boys and 7,800 girls spread across 196 examination centers.

Speaking at the Narok County Commissioner’s office, Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) CEO Dr. David Njengere reminded candidates to adhere to exam regulations to avoid disciplinary actions. He stressed the importance of keeping cell phones out of examination areas for both students and supervisors, and reinforced that the school gates should remain open until exam materials are safely returned to the designated storage facilities.
