Tight Race for ODM Langata Chairmanship as Jalang’o and Oduk Enter Fray

By Shadrack Nyakoe

The ODM grassroots elections in Nairobi are heating up, with intense competition unfolding in the Langata constituency.

Current MP Phelix Oduor, popularly known as Jalang’o, is vying for the chairperson position, facing stiff opposition from businessman Johnson Oduk and Highrise MCA Kennedy Oyugi.

The three contenders aim to unseat the incumbent chairperson, Tom Onyango, who has also announced his intention to defend the position.

The race has sparked debate among registered party members in the constituency, some of whom oppose sitting elected leaders contesting grassroots positions.

However, ODM has clarified that all members, including elected officials, are eligible to run for these positions.

Johnson Oduk, one of the key contenders, has expressed his determination to secure the seat and strengthen the party’s presence in Langata ahead of the 2027 elections.

“I am running because I am committed to helping the party grow in Langata and to meet the aspirations of our members, who are eager for strong leadership to secure all seats in 2027,” Oduk stated.

The contest is shaping up to be a pivotal moment for ODM in Langata, with party dynamics and grassroots mobilization taking center stage.
