The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has called on the government to publicly disclose the costs and losses incurred from the cancellation of Adani deals during President William Ruto’s State of the Nation address.

LSK president Faith Odhiambo welcomed Ruto’s cancellation, noting that it was in the public’s interest.

“We equally appreciate the President’s reevaluation of the Government stance on these agreements, and note that it is a positive step towards constitutionally conforming governance. We call upon the government to make public all the costs and losses incurred and ensure that appropriate measures are undertaken to minimize losses to the country.”

She underscored the need to ensure strict adherence to the constitution adding that the issues surrounding the deals were long overdue.

“It would be inimical to the government’s duty to act in the best interests of the public if the overdue recognition of the issues surrounding the Adani deals came after the same had been implemented.” She said.

“While we were prepared to prosecute both matters to a conclusion, we acknowledge that a concession on the part of the government regarding the overwhelming concerns around the two proposals is a more expeditious, reconciliatory, and people-driven approach toward resolving the protracted impasse between the people of Kenya and their Government.” She added.

During the State of the Nation address yesterday, President Ruto announced the cancellation of the Adani deals in Kenya due to what he termed as new evidence.

However, the decision was made after Adani Group Chair Gautam Adani was indicted in the U.S. over a Sh30 billion bribe.
