Nairobi Members of County Assembly have come in defense of Speaker Kennedy Ng’ondi who is implicated in a viral video ‘forcing’ a Muslim woman shake hands and him against her religion.
The MCAs have put two of their counterparts on the limelight for using the clip to extort the Speaker as it is part of a full video that has not shown what transpired.
Led by majority leaders Peter Imwatok, the MCAs allege that the Speaker was excited by the surprise birthday party organised by the female nominated MCAs.
“The Speaker is perturbed by the video and has spoken to Hon. Fatuma Abbey who is a very vibrant female MCA as she contributes to the mandate of the Assembly through robust debate contributions. Mr. Ng’ondi has affirmed that there was no sinister motive,” Imwatok stated.
Waithaka Ward Representative Antony Kiragu during a media briefing at City Hall stated that Ng’ondi has respect for women and is revered by the Islamic fraternity.
“This matter has been taken up by the powers and privileges committee who will probe the matter and take action against those found culpable,” Kiragu said.
