Police arrested after shooting Tuk-tuk operator in Kakamega

 A police officer stationed at Kakamega was arrested yesterday after he was involved in an altercation with an unknown tuk-tuk crew on Kakamega-Kisumu Road.

According to a police report seen by the corporate watch, police constable Nathan Bett who had been deployed to maintain order in the court premises returned his ceska pistol with 13 rounds of ammunition.

Upon inquiry, it was established that the officer had fired two rounds of ammunition during a scuffle between him and a tuk-tuk crew.

According to police officer Bett, the tuk-tuk crew declined to stop to allow the officer to alight at the Kakamega Police Station gate.

He added that the unknown individuals had the intention of kidnapping him and fired rounds to defend himself.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Officer Bett shot a 28-year-old who sustained two gunshot injuries on the left shoulder and another penetrating the right collarbone and exiting the left collarbone.

He was rushed to Mukumu Dispensary and was later referred to Oasis Multispecialty Hospital in Kakamega where he receives medical treatment.

Officer Bett was placed in custody and will be charged with the attempted murder as investigations continue.

“The said officer has been arrested and placed in a cell for attempting murder. Also, action to be taken to the in charge armory for issuing a ceska to a member of other ranks.” The report read in part.
