Nairobi South Member of County Assembly has appealed to the national government to help those whose houses were demolished for being on riparian land with shelter and food.
The MCA said the demolition which comes due to floods from the ongoing rains has left them hopeless and it would be good if President Ruto helps them as they have no where to go.
“Those whose houses have been demolished have no where to go. I am calling upon the president to go. Let them be helped even if it means paying for them one month rent and being given food.” Waithera stated.
The legislator stated that she supports the demolition but the corruption being experienced in some areas are faced with corruption as some people are being requested to pay.
“I want to request president Ruto to initiate investigations because those doing the demolition are asking Sh10000 from every household. The people are suffering a lot and a good example is Shimo la Tewa area in South B where some of the houses have been left and due to corruption.” She stated.
Countrywide, at least 230 people have lost their lives due to the ongoing heavy rains and resultant floods across the country.
The Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki said yesterday said that floods left 164 others injured and 72 people are missing.
